Hi friends, you are welcomed in the world of Civil
Allied Gyan. In this article I have explained about drying shrinkage test of concrete.
By the help of this blog you can easily test the drying shrinkage of concrete. So please continue to the end & keep your
love and support on me.

Overview:- Determination of drying shrinkage of concrete.
APPARATUS
REQUIRED FOR THE TEST:-
- Mould
- Oven
- Curing tank
- Length - comparator
Length- comparator |
PROCEDURE OF
THE TEST:-
- The drying shrinkage is the difference between the original wet measurement and dry measurement which is expressed as a percentage of dry length of the rectangular molded sample.
- Make the specimen mould (2 layer compaction) of size 7.5cm × 7.5cm × 15cm or 7.5cm × 7.5cm × 30cm and control curing 3 to 7 days.
- Remove the specimen from the mould and keep the mould in water at 25°C to 29 °C for 28 days after the concrete has been made or other time as may be specified remove from water and measure the length of the bar (L1).
- Now keeping the bar at temperature 49°C to 51°C and humidity 17 % RH for 44 hour and cooling 4 hour. This process repeated and constant length is attained, (L2).
Calculation:-
The percentage in difference of final length to
the initial length i.e. (L1 - L2) is the drying shrinkage.
RESULT:-
Length
of sample measured to an accuracy of 0.005 mm.
